These three male cardinals belong to a family of perhaps 8 or 10. They seem to enjoy the old pear tree throughout the year as they spend much time there in winter as well as summer. Usually the leader (perhaps the older one) flies into the branches first checks out the territory and then calls for the rest of the family. Members of the clan come from hidden places to join him. On one of the rare occasions when we had snow in Greenville Alabama the brilliant red of the males and their less colorful female mates thrilled me with an awesome show of their red against the brilliant white of the snow.
